A return to Quartzsite, Arizona

After months of working, unwinding from Hidden in the Hills, and preparing and teaching classes this winter, I finally get a break. In between that schedule I have repaired and mended the roof of my beloved Sylver Gypsy. She was in some need of upgrades and I did the following over several weeks. Ordering and mounting a brand new manual awning, replacing the plastic connectors on my roof rack with metal connectors, removing degrading leveling sealant and replacing it with a fresh coat to keep it watertight, removing the old solar panel, adding a fuse, and replacing the junction box, along with adding a 90 W panel. This was done with many hours of effort on top of an 8 foot ladder. It was long and grueling at times. I felt accomplished when done, but seriously never want to do this job again. The benefit is that I saved some bucks, which was the purpose.

I arrived in Quartzsite, Arizona where I had brand new house batteries installed. This time underneath my bed removing the old batteries from the belly of the Sylver Gypsy. I took the rest of the day and acted as a tourist which I enjoyed immensely, not having an agenda and not worrying about pending deadlines. I grocery shopped at the "discount grocers" where they have nearly expired or discontinued grocery products. You can’t beat the price of a $.33 can of chicken broth just because the can has a bit of a ding or two. I even scored getting Lindt chocolates. A twofer at a $1.50. This chocolate, when on sale, is about 3.50 a bar! I went on to check out products in the RV store picking up a few odds and ends. I found Chinese take out which was enough food for four meals! I am glad I have a freezer, so it is saved. I found camping at BLM land on Plomosa Road which now I’ve been to several times. I was able to position myself facing south east so I was able to wake up to beautiful sunrises. It was so peacefully quiet here, enough to hear the unfortunate tinnitus in my ears. As souvenir of Covid that I got in December. Either way I’m appreciating yet another opportunity.
