Jasper National Park

Well the rain woke me up this morning. And yes, it was chilly. About 42°. I hit Highway One, on my way towards Jasper National Park. My first stop was Herbert Lake, then onto Peyto Lake. It was still drizzling, and this trail was completely paved. However, it was surprisingly steep. I really got a work out going mostly straight up, but taking my time until I got to an incredible view. How is it possible that water could be this blue like an opal or a sapphire? it was absolutely breathtaking. I got lucky as the rain held off during this hike, and just like that, it decided to come back down hard again as I drove several miles up north, stopping at the Icefield Centre. Then the rain stopped. I managed to head down an unmarked road to a parking lot. I am rather stunned at the lack of signage in the way I’m accustomed, but I guess that’s part of the adventure. I watched people walking along unmarked paths to the Athabasca Glacier. From the parking lot it didn’t look like an unattainable hike. At least from my view. So I made the commitment to go however, it was very difficult. It was scary steep in certain spots, and I had to really be careful to navigate each and every step. I got as close as I could to see the reward at the end, that glacier view! I admired the tour buses that were climbing along the mountain, looking as if they were going straight up like a trolley. That was a separate tour, but how amazing it was to be out here? I met Angela from Ottawa, who was gracious enough to take some photographs. I left JoJo in the RV as it was quite chilly, and my hands were literally frozen by the time I came back to the RV, Actually now, I’m sitting in the front, while the sun is beating through my windshield, and I’m finally getting warm. This is certainly a huge contrast, so far, from the temperatures that I am acclimated to in Arizona. I certainly got my share of activity today, including the elevation extremes.
