On to Dawson City, Yukon
My quiet little peaceful spot in the forest was perfect. I headed towards Watson Lake to the sign forest. I got my sign ready, which is an old license plate carved with my name, the date, and my website. As I walked through the forest, I tried to figure out where I wanted to place it, and decided upon one of the earth moving vehicles in the central area. I went back to get some wire as I tied it to a thick cable. I’m glad I decided to add it here, as I noticed one of the posts had completely fallen down. These posts are wood, and about 10 foot tall. I enjoyed reading the signs and license plates from all over the world, many of which are in upstate New York. I made my way to Watson Lake, and met up with Jen and Sven from Germany. They were excited to be there and waiting to meet a grizzly. However, this was slightly a lower level of elevation, and other than a black bear, encountering a grizzly was going to be rare here. I decided to purchase a camp spot, for $20 a night. My camp spot took me on a trail through a mossy forest, back down to a short cut to the lake, where I did not one, but two polar plunges! Slowly walking in up to my waist and then jumping in, up to my neck. We think they were mayflies, that were hatching, and suddenly there is a huge buzzing swarm. But thankfully they didn’t bite. I was glad that they were not mosquitoes. Before dinner, I took my bike out for a spin. I’m still getting used to riding this E bike and I have to admit it was a blast! After a peaceful night, I was committed to a 5 Hour drive to Whitehorse. The last several days have left me with very little progress between the springs and these gorgeous lakes, so I really needed to make up some time. I made it to Whitehorse, stocked up on some groceries, and water, and another 45 minutes to Fox Lake where I got one of the last spots, literally on-the-lake. Eventhough the Muncho Lake camp was very close to the water, I think this camp is even closer!
