Valdez, AK

Robe Lake was special, especially in the morning when I saw the hot, fog, steam rolling up off the lake as the sun came over the mountain. So pretty! I hung out for a while here until making my way to Valdez Glacier overlook. Where I got up pretty close to the glacier, but with a melted lake in between. I picked up a piece of glacial ice, which was like a gorgeous crystal diamond. What a way to start the morning! Then I backtracked a tad to the campground where I called to inquire about electric hook up. My cold is really knocking me down, and the nights are so chilly. I really want electric to heat me up. After talking to Lisa, I was able to secure two nights. I took it easy for the rest of the morning, making a 2nd cup of coffee, and by lunchtime I felt a little better, enough to go to town where I  briefly visited the north and south harbor. I feel like I’m in slow motion with this cold. I wound up going to Dock Point Park, where I plopped down my camp chair and read my book while bundled up in my winter coat and hat, making sure that I was sweating, trying to cook this cold away. I returned to camp for an extra hot shower and another visit to the Valdez Glacier before heading back for dinner. It seemed like I literally did “nothing” today, but I am so exhausted! Like my father used to say…”I don’t know what we did today, but we’ll give it hell tomorrow!!!”
