Eklutna Lake, AK
I left Eagle River Campground heading further north about 36 minutes to Eklutna Lake Campground. Yes, it seems like I’m moving further away from Anchorage, in the opposite direction. But I needed to take care of business from the list I previously posted, in Anchorage, mostly taking care of the Sylver Gypsy, giving her some TLC, which hopefully will be what is needed to continue my journey. I easily found a space at Eklunta Lake Campground. I arrive at these places quite early, securing a spot and feeling free to continue my day. I drove down to the day parking area, at the lake, where I planted my chair doing some decompression from my busy day yesterday. Chore day. It was surprisingly busy, and noisy, for a Wednesday, but it is summer, with many people on vacation, however, it’s seriously in the middle of nowhere. After a bit of lounge time, I decided to take out my bike to ride the lake trail. There were a few inclines and declines, and scary deep potholes, as I got to the main part of the trail, which took me down less than a mile before I decided to park it, and draw a sketch. It’s a beautiful view, and the waters are still that tinge of aqua in the overcast skies. It’s surprisingly busy with people, biking, hiking, out on the water in their kayaks, and driving ATVs. I parked my bike along the edge, and carefully made my way to a spot where I could start my sketch. Jo Jo, as always, is a trooper and an easy traveler without complaints. He is strapped on the handle bar area of the bike, in his pouch. Upon return, I decided to walk my bike back to the main parking area. The one pothole with a big pointed rock gave me a little bit of a scare, and frankly, even though biking is good exercise, I needed to continue some walking. Back to lucky number 13 where I made my dinner and enjoyed cool soothing temperatures.
