Heading south from Atigun Pass

Well, I had almost an hour drive from my picture postcard camp spot at the river, as the rain drizzled on, back to Coldfoot. I filled up for gas, and then went across the street to the visitor center to hook into Internet. After a few phone calls, I hit the road, and eventually I made it back to Arctic Circle Campsite, where I did find the airplane in the woods that I was told about at Wiseman. They mentioned that the plane was in the tree, but in this case it was on the ground. How shocking that it was just left there, like a few of the other vehicles that I saw scattered about. Fortunately, the rain stopped, and the roads cleared up and I continued past Arctic Circle feeling like I had a couple more hours of driving left in me. I stopped for lunch briefly and merely going out of my drivers door around to the slider and back in allowed at least 25 or 30 mosquitoes. So my tennis racket mosquito killer is quite busy. Getting these things zapped and hearing the sparks, never seems to get old! I also drove past a house, the only one along this route, near Finger Mountain. This house belongs to the man that called me over to meet the group yesterday at Wiseman. There was a big sign on the side of the building which said “Old Man Alaska.” I will look it up on the Internet….It really does seem like a small world.
