Allison Lake, BC
Today was noticeably hazier as I’m actually heading towards a few towns that have fire issues. However, so far the freeway is open, but the visibility is as if it were foggy, but it’s not, it’s smoke. I drove, and drove, and finally I passed by a farm: Horstings Farm Market. I had to make a turn around and go there. Perhaps I have a soft spot for farm markets, since my very first job in life was working at a farmer’s market. It was a charming little drive with hanging petunias over a wooden bridge to get to a building that sold all kinds of produce including home baked goods. So I got a slice of raspberry pie and a fresh corn on the cob. I would’ve loved to buy more, particularly the produce, but I am a day away from crossing the border. So my dinner consisted of corn on the cob and leftover pasta. I’m still finishing up those awesome blackberries and will have them “put away” by mid morning tomorrow. They also had “you pick” sunflowers and zinnias, as well as a corn maze. They were beautiful images, along with huge fields of red ripe tomatoes. I wanted to stock up! I parked the Sylver Gypsy next to an apple orchard. Where I could walk Jo Jo, and admire the view, which was rather contrasting between these green fields of orchards, and a very dry, barren desert-like hills all around. Obviously, they irrigate the area to make it conducive for growing these trees and plants. It was a great pitstop to get out and stretch. It got to be later in the afternoon and miss Google indicated that I still had two hours to drive, but I just didn’t feel like it. These roads were very windy and mountainous and I could feel my head, with elevation changes, so I found another provincial camp spot at Allison Lake. Where I could take another walk with Jo Jo along a lake that looked like it was drying up. Though I could still admire those pretty tinges of aqua blue. I am slowly making progress.
You just had to take the turn to the farm! 🤭You are an amazing explorer! I am taking lessons as I read. Driving through smoke is haunting and depressing. Write on Sylvia!
ReplyDeleteYes, it’s a beautiful drive and it changes sometimes instantly as you turn the corner going from Prairie like open areas to thick forest, or sadly burned forest. I’m trying to keep up with my blog and currently I am in Montana. I plan on enjoying a Hot Springs today! Whoo!
