Heading to Homer, AK
A nice quiet night, and morning along the creek. Its just what free, dispersed camping is all about. I did have a tinge of apprehension in my exit, as the entry here was on the steep side. Going downhill in the Sylver Gypsy is a completely different challenge than going up hill, as it would be in any 2WD. So I put Eileen to work, and had here take the neon traffic flag, walk onto the road, to monitor oncoming traffic. Fortunately we are in a remote spot with very little traffic. Success. I floored it, at an angle, and made it to the road. I am bad ass. Having said that, I dont take these things for granted. I have had many decisions on whether or not I enter a spot. Its a tricky decision. And in Alaska there are many challenging roads.
We are on an official road trip! On the way to Homer, which took more than 4 hours of drive time. We wanted to get to the furthest point in this journey, and trickle back, slowly towards Anchorage. With no real camp site plans, we were able to find a first-come-first served space in Mariner Park on the Homer Spit. Its $20.00, so very affordable. How wonderful to make it back to the ocean, and breathe in that sea air!
