Lac la Hache, BC

I woke up to a very fiery orange sky this morning. It made for a great photo in my not so impressive spot, but it was perfectly adequate for one night as I make my way south. I sought out the tin man sculpture Prince George himself, which was not a really easy to get to it. After a bit of maneuvering I decided I had enough of the city life with all the traffic and noise and I couldn’t wait to get out! So I drove and drove, and kept seeing signs to Granville Coffee. The first time was 47 miles from the destination, then another, than another until I came to the town of Quesnel. A charming little town where someone took much pride and care with planting flowers all along the median. I regret not taking more photographs, but I decided to stand in a very long line to get me some Granville Coffee. Of course it was lunchtime, so I said heck, I will buy some lunch and a few pastries to go. I thought the price is requite reasonable for a large club sandwich that will be enough for two days and a seed bar for just two dollars. These days you can’t buy anything for two dollars, so naturally I bought one of those and will have to seek out a recipe to make my own. I continued my drive shooting for a provincial campsite park but it got to be later in the day and it would’ve required another hours drive. It is warm out 91° even with the AC running it felt hot. So I stopped short of my goal at a different provincial site Lac La Hache. It’s only C$18 which is about 14 to 15 US funds. They have potable water and a dump site. The camp host checked me in and told me I could walk to the lake across the highway through a culvert pipe. However, I decided to drive because of the heat. And yes, I went swimming in the lake, which was very comfortable with the right temperature to cool me down. I saw an older woman walking along the shore, and she approached me as I was sitting out drying out. She asked how’s the water? I said it was really nice. She said aren’t you afraid of getting itchy? I was concerned. That’s the last thing I need is some kind of rash or parasitic itch. Yikes, so far so good. With the fires looming in the area, and the long drive, the last thing I need is the itch. I went back to camp settled in for a lovely evening trying to forget that conversation.

  1. Hi Frida😜 Following you on the map. No...not stalking🤭. You are retracing my route up, (for now ) so it's really nice to see photos and read about things I was not able to slow down enough to experience. Fires and increasing heat for you! Are you thinking you want to turn around and go back to Alaska? Sure hope you avoided the lake itch! Many miles ahead of you! Safe travels!

    1. Just writing about the lake it makes me itch! Yes, there are so many routes, and I am planning to cross the border later this morning. I’ve done pretty well eating up my fresh produce and meat, so I’ll probably go shopping later on today. Yes I think about turning around but after being gone for so long. I’m also needing to get back home. I’m still over 1500 miles!
